That is the customer service number below but you have to sign in and request a customer code then call the number, enter your code, then wait forever. Most of the time they give you the option to leave your phone number to give a call back and that doesn't happen for a day or two
Seriously, when will people wake up and realize Square is a bad company. I have been a merchant account consultant for ten years and I constantly hear the same thing over and over "Square held my money and then I could not reach them by phone" or some derivation of that.
If you need help setting up an account to process credit card payments please consider trying another company. Yes, you may get charged a monthly usage fee but at least you are with a reputable company that will actually take your phone calls.

Holy mackeral! If they had that much money of mine, I'd be on the phone with the Better Business Bureau lodging a complaint. Of course, they may not have any better luck getting hold of Squareup than you have. But they'll note that, too, and count it against them. Even more likely if everybody who has that complaint does it.
They have been holding my funds for over 90 days and now saying another 60 days. They won't respond to any emails. I'm about to contact the BBB and an attorney and sue and hope to get attorney fees paid!

Yeah I really feel for you. My Square came in the mail to me today. I have been reading the reviews about this company and I can say I will not be using them for anything. You made a wise choice.. They are holding about 500.00 of mine right now and no way to reach them. Not professional at all. There are other companies you can go with that are much better. Once Square deactivates your account, you don't have access to your customer code any more so you can't call them.
It was hard to locate the number but I finally found there contact info. Here is the contact for square 855-700-6000 and they will help with any of your questions. They were able to fix the hold of the money for my account the next day. Hope this helps everyone!

You must be from Square...because if you actually did manage to get through on that number you would have known to tell people that you have to have a customer code and NO ONE without a customer code can get through to anyone at Square without it.
And there's no way to get a customer code on the website - you have to get it in the email then send you when they notify you that they want you to "verify" your account.
So - the upshot - it's in the email they send you notifying you that they want to verify your account - along with the phone number - and even then they are as helpful as an old bag of hair.
I reported them to the Attorney General in my state, the FTC, filed a complaint with the BBB, edited their Wikipedia page, slammed their Twitter customer support site. I am seriously pissed off.

I'm in the same boat! they stopped transferring my busines receipts causing overdrafts. I cannot get an id number to contact Help Desk as they require as I am small and have no business registration.Their phone number requires a work order number which I cannot obtain and they are not accepting the one I used for the past two years! This is certainly no longer the case, if in fact that did happen. You can't just call the number without a customer code which you obtain by going to www.square.com/code (or so they say...). I went to the URL, logged in, and was taken to their canned "submit an e-mail" page, with no option to get a customer code in sight. I've had my account since they first started, but it's been dormant for a year/year half because of bs issues with them back then. I ran a test charge through, and boy did they quickly accept my money, but haven't "verified" my account in "one to two business days" nor have they responded to any of the e-mails (4) I have submitted. STEER CLEAR OF SQUARE AND GO ELSE WHERE..... If you want service, and even more importantly, your money..... They will gladly draw out the time they draw interest on it, and I do 5k to 20k monthly recurring charges per client.

They are holding $14,000 of money that I collected for COD shipments. I was told to send in my business information after one customer got her credit card stolen and it came in as a dispute and the charge was already on that bill. I have been very frustrated with the NON support for this service. For NO reason at all they asked me to validate my account which I did and sent them all of the required documentation, then I receive an email that they have decide to cancel my account ( I have top credit ratings).
They provide me with a customer code which i punch in after trying to contact the only phone number available +1-855-700-5000 but then they say my code is invalid. I then recieve a further email that if your account is not active they do not provide any phone support????!!!! They then said that the funds would be held by them for 90 days!!! so I have refunded all charges that I have put through to them and they have assured me that this will happen within the next 2 - 9 business days. Very upset with them. Thought this was going to be a great service.

Sorry to say but this company is screwing customers really bad. I was lucky since I threatened them with physical retaliation, not afraid to say that. They are based in Manhattan and I offered them the deal in which I will hire some Italian friends to pay them a visit!!! After that I got my refund in 2 days! They were holding $9,000 of my money!

The Square too have been very dishonest with me. They took a charge from a customer of mine then put a hold of 60 days, also requesting very private information. I gave it to them, but they claimed I "failed" their test and that I was running a "high risk" business. When I refunded the customer the full amount, now I find out, they keep the $171 charges anyway. Must be their was of making money. Hey brother, I just found out the fastest way to get a hold of these guys and I got my customer code and everything, follow them on Twitter and then private message them. Ask them for your customer code, and they will provide it for you really fast in your main email . And they even answered all my questions really fast on Twitter
You sign in go to contact us then scroll down to the section that reads:
Tell us a bit about your question so we can better assist you.
Under product select what you want to talk about for example square register then another tab will pop up reading topic select payments and select call us. Once you select call us a phone number and a customer code will appear. Press on the phone number and once you get connected it will automatically enter the code and you will be able to speak with someone or press 1 for a call back which you will receive pretty quick. Hope this helps everyone.

it did work..... I followed the directions and got the code. If you have a registered account with squares already, your code will appear instantly. If you have NO account with squares......then you are out of luck. I called the number and punched in the code, and within 5 min. of holding the rep. came on. Thank you for this information. btw: I did tell the rep about how difficult it was to get the code. and how much hate mail is against them. She noted it down.

I have been with B of A merchant services for 6 years.They are eating me up in fees and the annual fee as well of 79.00 .Also you have to meet PCI compliance every year.I was ready to switch to Square but I see a lot of negative comments about this company holding money and no live person to talk to. Vicki, I stopped taking cr.cards in my shop in Dec.2014 for the very reasons you complain about w/ B of A only my processor was Control Data. Don't laugh: I used an old imprinter (but sometimes had to write the #'s on newer, flat cards), took ID & info from the buyer, got their signatures and processed them from the terminal attached to my home phone landline. That's damned near un-breachable! But when I tried to negotiate the newly installed monthly charges whether I had sales or not, they were like stone!
I can trace this to the pages of legaleze that came in the mail April, 2012 when all the major banks got into trouble. They passed the penalties on to us,, the vendors.
When I tried to end their services, they claimed a "$500" penalty for early termination. I immediately closed the account & changed banks. (Pooh. They make the rules as they go along)...
BUT, I have missed about $8,000 in sales---to date---because I can't/don/t take credit cards! Somebody advise if there is a portable terminal---not a smart phone app---that can absorb info until it can be connected to a safe (land) line!

To get the customer code you must login to SquareUp.com and select Help -> Contact Us -> Pick a Product/Area and select Call. Now with that you can be on hold for a few min then have it tell you it can call you back. I selected that twice and have gotten calls back in less than an hr. Good luck to others.

This is a piss poor example of a company. I've had square for a month now and the very moment I send out detailed invoices to be paid, they deactivate my account, place my money on hold and explain in an email that at this time they "cant provide any further details". Apparently, you're not allowed to take in over $2002.00 in a 30 day period after which they place your account under review. I've provided everything they've asked me for and they still want to hold my funds for 90 days. Bad thing is that I've already shipped the merchandise that was paid for. There is a possibility that Square may try to refund the customer although customer has already signed for and received her package. Should this be the case, I will be seeking legal advise and contacting the Better Business Bureau....this is senseless!

I have been dealing with Square since early April. No funds have come in to my account since then. A number was given by Square to use in reference to contacting Customer Service. Square promises a "Team" to investigate why funds have not been transferred but I have had no reply other than, "We rec'd your e-mail and will get back to you." Nothing as yet. I do see activity on my bank account. .49the credit~.49 debit. Is this a testing pattern? Next step is notifying to a U.S. Attorney.

Our very first transaction was for 1725.00, then got a email to verify my business after providing all the information I got another email stating there deactivating our account for "a pattern of transactions associated with high risk activity"! I am absolutely disgusted with the lack of support from this company. I have roughly $300 on hold and when asked to submit government identification and invoices I complied. I've tried to research this mysterious "customer code" for the last 2 days and cannot for the life of me figure out where to get it and when you call the 1-800# you are required to get a customer code. There was a place on the website that allowed me to sign in and potentially get my code after I submitted a form addressing my concern. Needless to say, I have not heard back and obviously they have me going in a circle. I don't use the square reader, my customers purchase everything online therefore I do not understand what the hold up is. Did I mention that they verified my account already? I plan on waiting a couple more days and then submitting a claim with the Better Business Bureau myself. To their credit they set up a very smart marketing strategy and got all of us to buy into it and now they are doing some underhanded stuff. I wonder if they use our money to play the stock market and that's why we get it 90 days later??? Understand, I am absolutely irate about this but know that in the end persistence will persevere and (hopefully) I will get my money.

My company has used Square reader for about 4 years now and I have experienced most of the complaints others have posted on this site, and through due diligence on my behalf those issues were resolved now I need costumer assistance with linking multiple readers to one account after spending hours on the square website to only get an error code time and time again, I was expecting after all these years that "Square" would of improved their customer service, such a pity.
After two days of sales square deactivated my account claiming they would them hold my nearly $1.000 for 90 days . Around the 75th day I emailed them asking on which date my money would be released to me and they responded giving me an exact date. That date is today and last night they sent another email saying they decided to hold my money for another 60 days and thanked me for understanding , problem is I DONT UNDERSTAND
I have had the unfortunate pleasure of interacting with square because it is linked to snapcash ( through snapchat) . I sent 250 to my sisters bank account through square and the funds never transferred then she sent me 250 back and the funds did not transfer again but were debited out of our bank accounts! I sent them 3 EMails asking for customer support over a period of Two weeks, no one ever responded to me! I WAS ONLY EmAILED BACK AFTER I aNGRY TWEETED THEM WARNING MY FOLLOWERS TO NEVER USE THEIR APP!It has taken me Almost A MONTH to the day to get square to cooperate and email me back, each time someone new is assigned who has NO IDeA any of the details of my case. Wow after reading all of these, I regret using square. They are holding 1898.00 of mine. I am going to refund my customer and hope they will repay the money to me by check. This is the second time I have had the problem with Square - had to refund then too. Luckily that customer reimbursed me. I am going to deactivate the account and use Flint from now on instead.

We just started having the same issue. Account on hold for "verification" no one will get back to me on emails or twitter AND they no longer allow you to get customer code to talk to an actual person. This is not good. Something is happening with their company.
Square is currently holding over $20,000.00 in sales revenues and they informed us via email that those funds will be held for 90 days. After an inquiry with Square we were informed by Square the only way to get our money faster would be to refund our customers and recharge them through another card processor. We were able to do that in the amount of $10,000 in sales and we just discovered that Square has illegally gone into our busoness bank account and has now deducted those funds. Your code will pop up, this code is the one you will use whenever you call, a new code is never needed. Save this number.
After you have been on hold for several minutes you will be prompted to leave your number for a call back, this is not an option. My call back was less than a half hour and the issue was resolved. Good luck with your issue, James.

Anyway, mine is not a money issue. That has never been a problem. My question for them is why has my Square data usage gone from less than .01GB per month to 2.57GB in "background data" usage this month. Had to increase my data plan. Have to log out of square after every customer then log back in again, all day!
I had to Tweet Square Support to get my Customer number. When I called, they were not ware that the site is not functioning - not giving customer number. Tweet a DM to support - they replied in less then an hour

We have had identity theft from a fake Square email. We changed everything in our account, including a whole new bank and account. Square sent an email stating that the new bank account has been verified, so why are they sitting on over $1000 and not depositing it? We have been with them for over 4 years with no issues until lately. I have emailed them 3 times over the last week. No one from Square has attempted to contact our business. Phone contact is impossible since their website isn't giving anyone a customer code! We are finished with Square! In the past I was able to find a number through a google search, but now.....don't bother calling, because you will not speak with anyone. They ask for a customer code that Does not exist. You are instructed to go to a page to obtain it. Instead of getting a code you are asked to send an email. I've already signed up with another company. There are to many options out there...no need to be bother.

Hey everybody I found the fastest way to contact Square, no joke, and it is legit. Go to Twitter and follow Square, once you follow them then private messaged them. They answered me within like five minutes. They gave me my customer code the phone number to call and they answered all the questions that I had really fast .
I was having the exact same problem trying to call after someone called me saying that square had tried to charge her card for an order that was made with a different card (basically, square sent a receipt to the wrong email address). i wanted to call and resolve it and would log in to get a customer number but no customer number would appear. i was logging in as by brand new business which has don't very few sales so far. when i got nowhere and none of my emails requesting a customer number were answered i tried logging in as my other business, that processes over 200k in sales a year, and guess what. I GOT THAT CUSTOMER NUMBER ON THE FIRST TRY! so basically, the reason square doesn't want to talk to you is because you're not making them enough money. it's that simple.

I received this from Square just today. I also emailed them with "what is my code?" And they sent me my code number. A friend of mine who works in IT says that you can change you email and they will send you your code.
You can find your customer code by following the steps below:
Visit squareup.com/help > click Contact Us in the top right corner.
Click Sign In > enter your Square account email address and password.
Select a product > click Call Us.

A client chargebacked $2800 and Square immediately closed my account. I refunded the charges to my clients and had them pay with an alternative method, then filed a fraud report with my bank for the remaining $2800 that Square removed from my checking account. Had they corresponded, I would have been less aggressive. But when I have $2800 removed from my account and you refuse to let me speak with you, I either get it back from my bank or bring you to court. Luckily Square got to avoid the legal fees on this one, after 15 days of no response I filed with Chase.

Just found out that you can most probally get your customer code from the email you had entered in their sign up form. I think you receive that email when you first make an account. Just type in square customer code in email search bar. I use square for my Airport Transportation in the Dallas metroplex feel free to call 972-977-0500

To get your customer code: Go back to one of your old emails asking to verify or finish activation. click on the link button and it will take you to the support section of the square website. Login and click the call us. If it doesn't work, close the window and try again - it took me two times for it to work, but then boom, when I clicked on Call us for the second time my customer number was there .

I have experience the same situation that everyone else had experienced. Square is holding $4800.00 since January 2016, and they claim that the money will be in my account in 90 days, which is due this month. I already make a complaint to the BBB, but Square respond was that their policy is 90 days to return the money to my account. They close my account after I submitted every documents that they ask me. What I see is a pattern to hold people money without a proven reason to justify their position.
I wrote my story yesterday, I would like to know if anyone from the group are from Florida. I believe that the only way to get our money faster is to sue them as a group.
so after a lot of reading and searching, I found the absolute best way to get ahold of a real person to through Twitter.
They responded very quickly and are seeming to be helpful.
They deactivated my in Jan and made me wait 180 days to release funds, which still haven't released. so hopefully they will release since I am in contact via Twitter now.

We have a deposit of $9,000 dollars at Square and they have decided the account is a risky one, we have been in business for over 3 years and we are a registered LLC in good standing for those 3 years. Square has decided to hold the money and will not give a release date. If anyone is thinking of using Square as a means of doing business...STOP! Anything over $1,000 seems to be an automatic red flag for this company and in most cases I find out they freeze your account asap. They are simply not set up to do businesses with larger transactions, they have a very bad customer service and you will not be able to talk to a live person without a code, unfortunately once they freeze your money they deactivate your customer code so you can only deal with them through email. Thus...run away from this company, do not use them. If you are a legitimate business stay away from them, it will effect your business in the worst way.

o get the customer code you must login to SquareUp.com and select Help -> Contact Us -> Pick a Product/Area and select Call. Now with that you can be on hold for a few min then have it tell you it can call you back. I selected that twice and have gotten calls back in less than an hr. I found this site earlier and after reading these comments. I thought I was going to be ill. That my money was gone and I was in a panic. I sent them direct messages on FB, Twitter and via email. Thinking I would hear nothing from them. ALL THREE AVENUES had contacted me back in less that 10 minutes and resolved the issue. Calling them, really doesn't work I will say. But, if you use any of the email or media links. You will get a response right away. Quit freaking people like me out.

They would of sent you an email stating they need verification and then your customer code is all the way at the bottom of that email it looks like a phone number about 12 numbers. Hope this helps the email will also have their phone number.
Absolutely horrible customer service! They are holding over 12k from our business. It was a band new account and it was the first transaction. They wanted all of this information to verify the legitimacy of our company (an event space/catering company) which we provided. Then we get an email saying they rejected our request and they recommend we just give the customer a refund out of our own pocket!! But no direction on how to get the funds they have back. Since the cancelled our account we are unable to get a customer code to speak to a representative. I had to create a new account which they require a full social security number and home address to do just so that I can hopefully get on the phone with someone. It is absolutely appalling they are able to run a company this way.
I dont know what square up is but they took money from my account as if I were a paying customer and never used square before in my life. If you're not a current/active merchant the policy is that they will not speak to you over the phone, though it seems it is just as hard for active merchants.
I emailed them today via their form, got one response, but when I sent a question back to the email received no word back.
I got the most information contacting them via Twitter which is awful and annoying because it would have been so much faster to actually speak to somebody, especially as my issue didn't fit any of their preordained options.
In the end the info I got via twitter was helpful but I think it's absurd that square refuses to supply proper customer service, especially when you're dealing with people's livelihoods.

I have put all my banking information. And I've had my square for a long time. The only thing that changed was my card information to link my bank. But I can not get my monies to deposit into my account. I took a payment on the 20th of September and it still has not gone into my bank. And y'all keep send me this verification thing. That I have done. I would like to have my monies in my bank.
I've gotten through to Square Customer Service, although I thought it was impossible. I created a Twitter Account for my business and simply sent them an Angry Message about my customer code and deposits. After 5 days with no respond, i was shock to see they responded to my email and sent my funds to my bank account that same day after sending them a message through twitter. They also emailed me my customer code. You have to ask for it. I suggest you try to get to them through Twitter and Email. Good Luck;)
just let it take you to sales and asked to be transferred to support. i'm having activation issues so i spoke to someone that gave me the name of the third party that processes the activation information...for anyone that isn't activated. the company is IDology. when i called IDology they let me know that square purchased software from them yes, but square has complete control after that initial transaction. that being said, square is definitely just giving the run around. i'll be choosing a different card processing service.

Same here, they are holding 5k of my money. I seemed to have be taken by 1 customer for 1k. I did what I was supposed to do, checking the drivers lic against the name on the card. Square said since I used the the original swiper instead of the new chip swiper, I wasn't protected. They then treated me like the bad guy, asking for all kinds of paperwork to review my company is legit, I sent it, they they emailed me, they discontinued my account. Once they cut you off, you can not speak to a live person ANY MORE!, you can onlyl email them. I email them to call me. Their response was they not only deducted the 1k from my bank (they say I owe the criminal) but they are holding my addtl 5k I had in sales. They advised they are holding it for 3 months.
